How to Make a Comfortable Bed for Sleeping in a Tent

Camping is a great outdoors experience. However, it doesn't have to be uncomfortable because of bad sleeping arrangements. It is possible to make a comfortable bed in a tent without too much hassle. The addition of a portable air mattress is a bit of luxury even in the wild. Read on to learn how to make a comfortable bed for sleeping in a tent.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase an air mattress at the local sporting goods store that fits the bottom section of your tent. There are a number of types of air mattresses available. Some are designed to be very lightweight for long hiking treks and others are for the car camping applications.

    • 2

Load up the family or friends and head for your favorite camping spot.

    • 3

Park the car and unload all the gear. Now search around for where you want to put up your tent. Find a place that is relatively flat and will not be sitting in a puddle if it happens to start raining. Clear away any rocks or branches that may be in the way and put up your tent.

    • 4

Take out the air mattress and put it in the tent. Unroll the mattress and spread it out evenly on the floor of the tent. Take the pump that came with the mattress and blow up the mattress until the firmness is right for you. Then put the plug in the hole you used to blow it up. Position the mattress inside the tent.

    • 5

Put something warm, such as a sleeping bag or pad on top of the mattress. Your body heat won't be able to warm the air in it, so you need something thick under you when you sleep. You are now ready for a comfortable night's sleep in your tent.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure there are no sharp objects beneath the floor of your tent that could puncture the mattress.
