Step 1
Study the rules and techniques used in golf. You can find instructional books and websites that explain the rules of the game and how to make various shots. This can be helpful if you know little to nothing about the game and need to learn, or as a refresher if you have some exposure.
-
Step 2
Buy or download a golf instructional video. A beginning golfing video will give you the basics and you'll see the instruction. Even those who have had some practice can improve their game by watching a video or two.
-
Step 3
Watch some golfers to see how to hit the ball, behave while on the course or handle various situations. If you know some golfers, you can ask to tag along on a game or pick a bench overlooking the course and watch for a while. You can learn a lot about how the game is played by watching others.
-
Step 4
Catch a golf tournament on TV. You can either watch alone or with others who are interested in golf to pick up tips and techniques from the pros. Pay attention to the commentary and how the players approach various shots.
-
Step 5
Hit the driving range to practice your shots before hitting the links. A driving range offers you the chance to practice on your shot without having to worry about slowing others down.
-
Step 6
Practice your game on the course as often as you can. Once you think you've got the basics down, play some golf on a real course. If you know someone who golfs, ask him to come along and give you pointers. You'll learn quite a bit just by playing the game regularly and working on new things.
