Creating knitted projects with beautiful, patterned stitches is a fun way to improve your skills. The Inverness diamond pattern is a knit stitch that creates a masculine-looking diamond pattern. It is not a bulky pattern and it is reversible so the diamond shows through on both sides. If you have a little knitting experience, you can learn to make the Inverness diamond pattern.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Knitting needles (any size)
  • Yarn
  1. Step 1

Cast on 17 to 34 stitches. The Inverness diamond pattern takes 17 stitches to complete, so you must cast on 17 stitches or a multiple of 17 to complete it.

  2. Step 2

Knit one, purl three, knit nine, purl three and knit one. If you cast on more than 17 stitches, you will need to repeat the pattern to complete the row. This makes row one.

  3. Step 3

Purl two, knit three, purl seven, knit three and purl two. Repeat the pattern as many times as needed to complete row two.

  4. Step 4

Work row three by knitting three, purling three, knitting five, purling three and knitting three. Finish, if necessary, by repeating the pattern.

  5. Step 5

Begin row four by purling four, then knit three, purl three, knit three and purl four. Repeat as many times as necessary to complete the row.

  6. Step 6

Start row five by knitting five, then purl three, knit one, purl three and knit five. Repeat the pattern, if necessary, to finish your row.

  7. Step 7

Craft row six. Purl six, knit five and purl six. Repeat the pattern as many times as needed to complete the row.

  8. Step 8

Knit seven, purl three and knit seven for row seven. Repeat the pattern as many times as necessary to finish the row.

  9. Step 9

Finish the pattern by repeating row six, row five, row four, row three and row two in that order. When you completed those five rows, you will have a total of 12 rows worked in the Inverness diamond pattern.

  10. Step 10

Repeat steps two through nine to repeat the Inverness diamond pattern. When your swatch reaches the desired length, cast off all your stitches.
