Winters are a great time to stay inside, where it's warm, but if the winter days are getting monotonous and cabin fever is beginning to set in, consider planning an adventurous winter vacation for your family. The possibilities for a fun, winter adventure are abundant. Read on to learn how to plan an adventurous family winter vacation.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take the family skiing or snowboarding this winter. Great skiing can be found in many parts of the United States, including the West's Cascade Mountains, Vermont's Green Mountains, Maine's Saddleback Mountain, New Hampshire's White Mountains, Aspen, Colorado, Deer Valley, Utah and many others.

  2. Step 2

Plan a family hiking trip. Winter is a great time for hiking, and if you're really adventurous, try hiking with snowshoes. Fewer hikers brave the cold weather, so you will have more of the trail to yourselves, and you can do it anywhere that offers wintry weather conditions.

  3. Step 3

Check into an ice hotel for a truly unique winter vacation. Ice hotels can be found in Sweden, Quebec, Norway and closer to home in Alaska. Check the "Resources" section below for more detailed information about ice hotels.

  4. Step 4

Bundle the family up and spend a day ice fishing. America's abundance of beautiful northern lakes, including those of the Midwest states and New England, are perfect for ice fishing.

  5. Step 5

Brave the elements and take the family mushing with a dog sled team. Dog sled adventures can be as short as a half hour, or they can be several days long. But whichever length you choose, it will be sure to be a vacation that you and your family will remember forever.

  6. Step 6

Take the kids on a fishing trip. Winter is a great time to catch some bass, steelhead, trout or catfish. Great winter fishing can be found in almost any area of the country.
