Public relations professionals are networkers by definition. Networking among the business community should be a skill that you have already finely honed. Building trust among relationships is not something that happens overnight, but rather takes a commitment to the process and a plan of action that is consistently followed. You can use the same skills you learned in school or on your last job to land a new job in public relations.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Visit every networking group that is active in your area. Public relations is a field that every business employs, so you have a wide range of contacts that could be useful in your job search.
Step2
Choose to join those groups that fit well in your schedule so you can make a commitment to attend the meetings and partake in the activities. Pick groups that give time at meetings and gatherings for extensive business networking. It can be more difficult to form relationships and put the word out that you are looking for a job if you have to sit in committee meetings with a set agenda all the time.
Step3
Include former schoolmates, neighbors and friends in your business network. Even your social networks are prime for finding leads on jobs.
Step4
Take care of your contacts by sending them business whenever you can. If you make a referral, make sure the referral tells your contact that you sent him or her. The more you do for others, the more they will want to help you when the opportunity arises.
Step5
Carry business cards with your contact information on them wherever you go. You never know when you will have the opportunity to network for your public relations job. The perfect contact with a possible job in mind for you may be in line with you at the grocery store or your child's daycare. Be prepared.
