How to Get Results From a Transcriber

1
Eliminate noise while dictating. Make sure the room where you dictate is quiet and that you don't shuffle papers or make other unnecessary noise. If you are recording at a meeting and background noise can't be avoided, use a noise-canceling microphone. These devices record only the voice that is speaking into it and block out any background noise.
-
2
Communicate with the transcriber. If you have any templates that you want the transcriber to use, make those instructions clear. Communicate any other instructions that might not be obvious.

3
Be consistent. Come people like to dictate punctuation and some do not. If you prefer to tell the transcriber when to capitalize words and insert commas, do it consistently. A good transcriber develops a rhythm while transcribing, and throwing in an odd comma can disrupt his flow.

4
Check the volume level on your recorder. Even though most recorders have a level indicator, it's a good idea to say a few words and play it back--just to be sure.
