Single sourcing documents for many purposes and audiences is one of the strengths of Adobe FrameMaker. Using conditional text in FrameMaker documents allows you to hide and show text at the paragraph, the word, or even the character level. By default, FrameMaker includes a "Comment" conditional text tag. To explore the power of conditional text, you must create your own conditional text tags.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Adobe FrameMaker
Step1
Conditional Text Dialog Box Open a FrameMaker document and click "Special" and then "Conditional Text." The "Conditional Text" dialog box displays.
Step2
Edit Condition Tag Dialog Box Click the "Edit Condition Tag" button. The "Edit Condition Tag" dialog box displays.
Step3
Enter a descriptive name for the conditional text tag in the "Tag" field.
Step4
Select Condition Indicators using the "Style" and "Color" drop-down lists. These define how the conditional text distinguishes itself from unconditional text. You can add underlines or different colors to make the conditional text stand out. When you publish the document you can choose to hide Condition Indicators so that the conditional text looks the same as all the unconditional text.
Step5
After adding Condition Indicators, click the "Set" button. The new conditional text tag displays in the "Conditional Text" dialog box.
Step6
Now you can make any text in your document conditional text. Select the text, switch focus to the "Conditional Text" dialog box, select the conditional text tag in the "Not In" list and click the "Apply" button.
