How to Volunteer as a Blood Donor Recruiter for American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is well known for its blood drives, which help to create a surplus in local blood banks in case of a natural disaster. As a blood donor recruiter, you will be responsible for working with individuals, groups and companies to hold organized blood drives.

Instructions

  1. Solicit Blood Donations for Charity

    • 1

Find the local chapter of the American Red Cross that is nearest to you and complete a volunteer application form. Inform the board members of the chapter that you intend to become a blood donor recruiter, and they will outline the proper procedure for you to follow.

    • 2

Volunteer with the American Red Cross by seeking projects that directly relate to blood donation drives. You may start out as a Blood Mobile Worker, an entry-level position where you greet and register blood donors. Or you may start off as a Motor Service Volunteer, where you will help to transport the blood from the donation site to the local blood banks.

    • 3

Ask your local chapter of the American Red Cross about further training that is available that will help you to become a Blood Donor Recruiter. For instance, you can learn how to be a safety instructor, so that you can conduct lectures in conjunction with the blood drives. Once you have completed both the training and several assignments, you may be asked to make a commitment to the organization, and begin regular assignments as a Blood Donor Recruiter.

    • 4

Perform your duties as a Blood Donor Recruiter by volunteering a set amount of time per month to organize blood drives for individuals, groups and companies. You may also work with other local chapters to coordinate the recruitment drives with participating blood banks.
