Step 1
Contact your local chapter of the American Red Cross to volunteer as a Youth Group Liaison. This position requires no specific experience, although preference is given to those with teaching experience and those who have worked with children in the past.
-
Step 2
Determine whether or not you want to volunteer with the American Red Cross on a long-term basis by offering your services for a specific event or project. While the hours of most volunteer positions within the Red Cross are quite flexible, you will generally need to be available during school hours if you wish to become a Youth Group Liaison.
-
Step 3
Submit a list of your skills to the local chapter of the American Red Cross. In addition to your volunteer work as a Youth Group Liaison, you may be asked to participate in activities where your skills, such as medical training or the ability to speak another language, might be an advantage. Once you have completed several assignments for the Red Cross, you will be able to start your regular work as a Youth Group Liaison.
-
Step 4
Visit local schools in your area and ask for sponsorship for Youth Red Cross Clubs. You will then be in charge of setting all guidelines for the club, organizing the meetings and getting the club to participate in local American Red Cross events, such as charity fundraisers and blood drives.
-
Step 5
Use the official website of the American Red Cross to locate opportunities for a Youth Group Liaison position (see Resources below). You can also use the website to find local chapters, submit a list of your skills to the organization and even apply for further Red Cross training, such as CPR.
