Contact your local American Red Cross chapter and ask to speak to the event coordinator. Find your local chapter by using the locator on the website's home page(see Resources below).
Step2
Ask your local Red Cross chapter whether it sponsors a benefit golf tournament. If not, ask which chapter is the closest to you that does sponsor a golf tournament. This is a good time to ask your local chapter what benefit events it does sponsor. You may find yourself getting excited about a motorcycle rally, such as the Ride for the Red, or other local events.
Step3
Use the chapter locator or ask your local chapter for the contact information for the nearest large urban chapter if no golf tournaments are happening in your area. Larger chapters are more likely to sponsor the larger charity events.
Step4
Decide whether you will contribute the entry fee yourself or raise the funds from family and friends. It's a tax write-off for anyone who donates.
Participate in the Tournament
Step1
Hit several buckets of balls a day or play at least two short rounds a week in the two weeks leading up to the tournament. This will ensure that you don't injure yourself playing 18 holes on the big day.
Step2
Take business cards to share with other participants. Charity golf tournaments are a great place to connect with other like-minded professionals.
Step3
Encourage youth to participate. It's a good way to show them that charitable work can be fun, and it's a great opportunity to spend a day with your kids and to introduce them to the American Red Cross.
Tips & Warnings
Participate in a golf tournament if you have an interest in golf, even if you are a beginner. Play on this day is for fun, and it's a good way to enjoy a round of course golf without the pressure of typical weekend play. Everyone is out there for a good cause; the great golfers will shine and the casual golfers will have a great time, do some good and maybe even pick up a few tips!
