Meals on Wheels is a charitable organization dedicated to feeding every hungry senior citizen. March for Meals is a campaign run during the month of March to raise awareness and contributions for the cause. It's a good time to volunteer, donate and learn more about the program and its needs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Get Involved

Step1
Ask the local Meals on Wheels that is sponsoring a March for Meals event to send you a registration form. Note that some chapters have events all through the month of March, while others focus on a one-day event. Ask for a calendar of March for Meals events in your area.
Step2
Determine whether there is a minimum amount that you must donate to participate. This can be done when you are on the phone with your local Meals on Wheels chapter, or you can find various donation options on the registration form.
Step3
Turn in the registration form, strap on your fanny pack, grab a bottle of water and get moving!
Step4
Participate annually if you want a recurring reason to keep fit throughout the year. Those who participate in group events tend to stay healthier and more mentally fit, which are simply added benefits to helping out a very important organization.

Assess Your Fitness

Step1
Plan on walking, perhaps with a group of similarly fit friends, if you are unable to run or jog. The key is to finish, and you will help Meals on Wheels and its March for Meals campaign no matter how you reach the finish line.
Step2
Join the walk no matter what your age or fitness level. People of every age and type come out to support Meals on Wheels at this event. This is not a competitive marathon, but a friendly 5k event.
Step3
Ask about volunteering to man beverage booths or information stalls if you feel that making the march is beyond your physical abilities. Volunteers of all types are appreciated.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ask a friend or two to participate with you. If you join a March for Meals event on your own, you're sure to meet new people and make friends, but asking others to join you is a good way to get them involved and spread awareness about the Meals on Wheels program.
  • You can locate your local Meals on Wheels chapter and find information about nearby events using the Meals on Wheels website (see Resources below). Simply enter your address to find the nearest chapter.
