Austin is not just the state capital of Texas. It is also the cultural center of this large state, where music and the arts flourish. Home to major universities such as the University of Texas Austin, the city is also a center of research and industry. You can make the most of your trip to Austin by looking at hotels near the parts of the city that attract you most.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Visit the Capital City of Texas

  1. Step 1

Get a taste of the nightlife of Austin when you look at hotels near Sixth Street. This area of Austin is known for its live music and entertainment venues, such as Esther's Follies and the nightclubs that play host to Austin's lively music scene.

  2. Step 2

Enjoy Austin's outdoor attractions when you spend time by the shores of Lake Travis. You can book hotels, spa retreats or even stay in a bed and breakfast near this picturesque man-made lake.

  3. Step 3

Catch a glimpse of student life at the University of Texas when you stay off the "drag" near Guadalupe. This strip of shops and restaurants is located adjacent to the campus and is home to some of Austin's eclectic artists and galleries.

  4. Step 4

Be a part of the largest music festival in America when you book a room during the annual South by Southwest music, film and interactive festival, referred to as SXSW, each spring.

  5. Step 5

Make your reservations early for the SXSW festival. Due to the popularity of this event, hotels may be booked up as early as the fall preceding the event.

  6. Step 6

Keep university graduation dates in mind when you book your trip to Austin. Since the largest sector of Austin's population is made up of students from UT Austin, St. Edward's and other colleges you can expect hotels to be booked up during graduation week.

  7. Step 7

Witness the seat of Texas State government when you stay near the capitol near historic San Jacinto Boulevard. Keep in mind that hotel rooms may be at a premium when a new session of the state legislature opens in January of each year.

  8. Step 8

Book a room a little outside of Austin to visit the home of former president Lyndon B. Johnson. Located a few miles outside of Austin in Johnson City, you will see the national historical park that bears his name.
