The flowers of the chamomile plant have been used for thousands of years as an all-natural remedy for a variety of ailments. Create a Chamomile Compress to Treat Skin Inflammations

  1. Step 1

Purchase a package of instant chamomile tea bags. They can be found at your grocery store, herbal remedy shops or through online specialty shops.

  2. Step 2

Pour a glass of water. Submerge an entire tea bag, making sure it's thoroughly soaked. Keep it in the water for at least 3 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Remove the tea bag. Pour the water out. Wring the tea bag over your sink to remove excess water.

  4. Step 4

Refrigerate the damp chamomile tea bag. To maximize its effectiveness, you'll want to get it nice and cool. Leave the tea bag in the refrigerator for up to 30 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Place the cool tea bag on the inflamed skin. You can use a bandage to hold the bag in place for extended periods, although you won't want to leave a compress on for more than 10 hours at a time.

  6. Step 6

Remove the tea bag and allow the irritated skin to breathe. Repeat the process as needed throughout the day.

  7. Step 7

Make a larger chamomile compress by wrapping dried chamomile leaves in cotton cloth and using a bandage to secure it in place. It might be easier to make a larger compress without water. Chamomile compresses can be used both wet and dry.

  8. Purchase Chamomile Products to Treat Skin Irritations

  9. Step 1

Use chamomile soaps to clean irritated skin. It's always a good idea to clean inflammations before attempting to treat them. Visit herbal supply stores to find special chamomile soap.

  10. Step 2

Purchase chamomile lotions. Chamomile is incorporated into a wide variety of medicinal lotions to help clean and treat wounds.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're allergic to ragweed or suffer from hay fever, use chamomile products with caution; the two plants have a lot of biological similarities. If you experience any further inflammation, discontinue using chamomile products.
  • While chamomile may ease the discomfort of skin inflammations, it won't directly address the source of the inflammation. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
