How to Test Your Kindness Factor

We live in such a fast paced world and it seems like we don’t have enough hours in the day to accomplish all that we have to accomplish much less think about doing what I will call, “Simple Acts of Kindness.” Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “A day without doing a kindness is like a day lost.” Food for thought isn’t it?

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
When I first read Eleanor Roosevelt’s words of wisdom I wrote them down, thinking to myself what a beautiful thought. Then I decided that at the end of each day I would see if I had done something kind. I would like you to try that. It doesn’t have to be anything monumental, no just a simple act of kindness. What are those simple acts of kindness? Think for a moment. In my mind they are things like, taking the time to smile at a co-worker, taking in a neighbor’s mail while they are on vacation, shoveling a path through the snow for your neighbor, or calling a friend who is ill; just something simple…all it takes is a little forethought, just a little giving of your heart…
Step2
Now, you know how well you have done in the kindness department. If you find that you haven’t done very well then make a conscious effort to do better. And, if you find that you have done really well in the kindness department notice how good it makes you feel! It puts a smile on your face doesn’t it?
Step3
If you have children talk to them about who Eleanor Roosevelt was and tell them what she said; have them see how well they do in the kindness department. You will be amazed at the outcome of this experiment in kindness…Yes, as Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “A day without doing a kindness is like a day lost.”
