To scan Slide-film (reversal film, mounted in plastic or cardboard sleeves for projection, basically a "Positive Negative") using Adobe Photoshop, you need a scanner with negative scanning capability. The scanner used in this explanation is a CanoScan® LiDE 80.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Open Adobe Photoshop, and go to File, Import, and select the name of your scanner.

  2. Step 2

Line up the removable Film Scanning devise on the left-hand side of the scanner bed.

  3. Step 3

Carefully place your Slide in the Film Guide, making note of which number on the Guide the Slide lines up with.

  4. Step 4

Place the scanner's Film Adaptor Unit over the Slide you wish to scan.

  5. Step 5

Under "Select Source" choose as either "Color Positive Film" or "Black and White Positive Film." Then, under "Color Mode," you can choose to either scan it as "Color" or "Grayscale" depending on what you will want to ultimately do with it.

  6. Step 6

Choose your output resolution, and under "Select Frame," choose the number on the Film Guide your Slide corresponds with.

  7. Step 7

Select "preview." After your initial image comes up, make any necessary adjustments, and click "scan." Save your work.

Tips & Warnings
  • For your Slide film to fit in the Film Guide, you may need to remove it from it's plastic or cardboard mount.
