How to Update Old Linens

With the holidays around the corner guests will be arriving soon to celebrate. Before you go out and buy new linens, think about giving your old ones a facelift!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  • Block print (potato or sponge)
  • Bowl
  • Water
  • Fabric paint
  • Knife
  • Iron
  • Linens - tablecloth, napkins or nice hand towels. This works best on smooth fabrics like linen or cotton
  1. Step 1

Iron the linens you are going to use.

  2. Step 2

Take inspiration from nature--leaves, chestnuts, berries and other organic elements make adorable and elegant block prints. Draw out the images (about 2" for a napkin or towel, and larger for a tablecloth) Cut the shapes out of a sponge or potato so that you have a "stamp."

  3. Step 3

Dip your stamp in paint. I recommend using the stamp about 4" apart and creating a boarder on tablecloths and maybe doing the center or corner for napkins. Place the shapes around the linens. You can also alternate colors of paint for a layered look. Just wait for each stamp print to dry before you layer on the next one. Allow to dry and you're done.
