Things You'll Need:
- a mental health therapist
- a physician
- paper
- pencil
-
Step 1
Have a physical exam by a physician. This is important because there are some organic causes for depression that require medical intervention.
-
Step 2
Find a mental health professional that you can trust. This step can be tricky because you may not find "the one" right away. It's really about finding someone who you can relate to, and this can take some time just like any relationship. So, if you don't find one that you click with right away, keep looking! Just be sure to give each relationship time to work.
-
Step 3
Make your daily grooming and hygiene a priority. There may be days when you don't feel like it, but do it anyway! People who are depressed usually loose interest in grooming, so making it a priority can help you stay on your healing pathway.
-
Step 4
Write your thoughts and feelings in a journal. Share your journal with your therapist. This can be a helpful tool if you have "brain freeze" when talking to your therapist.
-
Step 5
Make a plan to participate in some type of social activity. Share your plan with your therapist and a trusted friend.
