Writing a term paper requires a number of definite skills but is not too difficult of a task if you tackle it in an organized manner and use sound writing and grammatical skills.

  • Research tool including a computer with an Internet connection
  • Library with referenced materials
  • An outline
  • Dictionary/Thesaurus
  • Set of Encyclopedias
  • Well light work area
  1. Step 1

    Choosing a subject - One of the most common occurrences made when a term paper assignment is given is taking too long to determine the subject of the paper. This strategy wastes valuable research and writing. Select your subject quickly that is not very general in nature. A very general subject makes it difficult to gather research material. You find yourself all over the map.

    The best subjects are built around a question, which will allow you provide facts and support for the premise of the question. It is much easier to research facts and accurate information to backup the answers to a uniquely focused question.

    Research reliable source of relevant materials

    Collect notes and references to all relevant material in an organized manner -

  • Use folders to keep your research organized

  • Don't just rely on your SpellChecker as some words may be spelled correctly but could be the wrong usage.
  • Save a back-up copy of your work on CD, disk or a thumbdrive
