What's the difference between a Yam and a Sweet Potato? Generally the Yam is much sweeter and the Sweet Potato has more of a texture like a potato. You've had French fries, now try Sweet Potato fries.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 sweet potatoes (about 2 lbs.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Parsley (optional)
  1. Step 1

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. While it is heating up, in a large bowl, mix the vegetable oil with the orange juice, salt and pepper.

  2. Step 2

Peel and cut the sweet potatoes into strips, like French fries and put the sweet potatoes into the vegetable oil mixture until well coated. Depending on how large the sweet potato is and how large you want the fries, you can cut the sweet potato in half and then cut into strips.

  3. Step 3

Next, place the sweet potato strips in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Bake until tender which will take about 15-20 minutes. Turn the fries over after about 10 minutes to get them fully cooked.

  4. Step 4

You can make your sweet potato fries sweeter by sprinkling on brown sugar with cinnamon. If you want them not so sweet, then use chili powder and paprika. Sprinkle evenly over sweet potatoes. Bake until glazed, about 5-10 minutes. For a gourmet look, sprinkle optional parsley on top.

Tips & Warnings
  • Spices can be omitted. Just add brown sugar and follow the same baking time to glaze sweet potatoes.
