This article is to instruct people how to operate a mower safely and to mow a lawn in the best way possible.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Set the cutting height on your mower to correct height. Mow grass tall in summer, shorter in spring. Never cut more than 1/3 of the grass blade.
Make sure the blade is sharp. Make sure the oil level is good.

  2. Step 2

Change the mowing direction each time you mow. The speed of the mower determines the quality of the cut. The slower the speed, the better the cut.

  3. Step 3

The frequency of mowing is dictated my your climate and grass type. In general, once a week is the norm. But in some cases once every two weeks is sufficient.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to use eye protection and solid boots with good soles. Keep hands and feet away from the exit chute of mower when it is running!
