This sounds like something my grandma would have said before women gained the ability to be independent and financially stable on their own. Even if you act like someone you aren't by speaking less or wearing more makeup, if he is a quality guy and you two have a connection, he is going to see you at your worst and listen to your worst, so don't sweat the small stuff.
