Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- A diary or calendar.
- Time.
- Boldness.
Step1
Listen to your body. Is it achy? Is it telling you it needs exercise, water, fun?
Listen to your external and internal voices. Are they easily irritable? Quick to snap? Over-reactive in non-confrontational situations?
Step2
You may well be in need of some time-out. Some of us find it difficult to stop and do something nice for ourselves. If this is the case for you, remind yourself that you are allowed some time for just you.
Step3
Allow your mind to wander off and dream. Think about the things you most love to do. What makes you happy? When and where do you feel your most peaceful? What gives you contentment? Do you need a massage, a swim, a holiday?
Step4
Decide to take action. Get your diary or calendar and set a date with yourself. Block out a few hours, one, two, or even a whole day. If you need a few days, take them. Allow yourself to communicate your needs to you and take them seriously. You're worth it.
Step5
Be Organised. Prepare for your time-out in advance. Organise for a sitter, or for your kids to play at a friends house. Discuss with your husband or partner your plans. (Especially if you're planning on taking a few days away.)
Step6
Be committed. When the day comes make sure you do the thing you planned. If something completely unexpected happens and you just can't go, re-schedule straight away.
Step7
If everything falls into place and you can leave the house and family to their own devices, then do so. Drive away, catch the bus, hop on the plane. Enjoy yourself and remember you are allowed some time to yourself. You deserve a break, after all you look after everyone else don't you?
