Exercise is essential for kids, even kids with asthma. Getting an asthmatic child to exercise can be challenging, especially if the slightest activity sets off wheezing or asthma flare ups. Here are some ways to get your asthmatic child moving.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Talk to your child's doctor on how your child can be physically active without causing asthma flare-ups. Ask the doctor about adjusting your child's treatment so he or she is better able to be more active.
Step2
Build your child's aerobic capacity by starting with fun activities such as brisk walking on level ground, skipping rope, roller skating or skateboarding.
Step3
Consider sports well-tolerated by kids with asthma. Swimming, golfing, bowling or achery are great choices.
Step4
Make sure your child warms up before participating in team games or other strenuous exercise, to avoid wheezing as much.
Step5
Remind your child to use his or her asthma medication beforehand.
Step6
Let teachers and coaches know you want your child to exercise and discuss or work out any modifications well-suited for your child's condition.
