Though it was beautiful the day you bought it, sterling silver loses its luster over time. It looks dull, even dingy without the proper cleaning. Don't throw out your candlesticks, though! Cleaning sterling silver is easy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Baking soda powder
  • Toothbrush
  • Sunshine cloth

Step1
Silver Set Flatware and sterling jewelry can both be cleaned the same way with baking soda powder and a toothbrush. Dampen the tooth brush with warm water and dip it into the baking soda powder scrub lightly with the tooth brush.
Step2
Sterling Ring If the flatware is not a golden hue and leaning more towards black it will require a non abrasive brand of liquid paste silver polish. This can be purchased at a sterling shop.
Step3
Sterling Earings It also imperative to keep flatware or sterling jewelry in a air tight drawer or chest. Sterling tarnishes because of humidity so it is very important to take jewelry off before washing dishes.
Step4
Sunshine Cloth To create the natural shine use a cotton cloth or sunshine cloth and buff it gently.

Tips & Warnings

  • Any cleaner that you use do not leave the jewelry in cleaner for long periods of time.
  • Do not use cleaners with sulfur or ammonia.
  • Sterling dips are also good if no gemstone.
  • Please use gloves when using chemicals.
  • If unsure of a product contact a jeweler.
