Have you ever felt like someone was trying to sabotage your homeschooling efforts? Have people done things that make you wonder if they are just pretending to be agreeable while their actions say otherwise? Do you find that some people have a bad habit of interrupting your homeschool day? If you suspect someone is trying to sabotage your homeschool efforts, you need to take action.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • discernment (ability to sense sabotage)
  • boldness (ability to speak your mind)
  • strong will power to do what you know is right for you
Step1
Recognize sabotage when it happens. You may notice your friend who seems to be in support of your homeschooling makes a habit of dropping in when they know you are teaching your child. You find that your relative repeatedly calls you and holds you on the phone during schooling hours. An acquaintance of yours begins to ask your homeschooler questions that they are sure the child will not be able to answer. Even worse, your sister who you think supports your decision to homeschool calls Social Services and reports you for homeschooling neglect.
Step2
Confront them. Have a conversation with the person you suspect is interfering with you homeschooling your child. Let them know that whether they realize it or not, their actions are making it difficult to teach your child and that further disruption will not be allowed. You can be as gentle or gruff as the situation calls for. Some people can sabotage your efforts without even realizing it. Others will be quite purposeful in their actions.
Step3
Prevent it from happening again. Make rules that will not allow further disruptions. Do not answer the phone or let visitors in your home during certain hours. Limit or end contact with people who are purposely making your homeschooling difficult. Continue homeschooling your kids knowing that you have made a wise decision.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do surround yourself with people who you know for a fact support homeschooling.
  • Find a homeschooling veteran to help guide you and to be your confidant when you are having a bad day.
  • Do not complain about homeschooling to someone who may be hostile towards homeschooling as they may be looking for a season to talk you out of it.
  • Do not tell people who are hostile towards your homeschooling about bad days as they may be looking for a reason to report you.
