How to Get an Employment Visa to Work in the UK
If you are looking for a job in the UK but have immigrant status, or are outside of the country and want to work in the UK, you will need to obtain a work permit from your employer. Here is what you need to do in order to start the process.

- Proof of residency or citizenship of your native country

Complete an online application online at WorkPermit. You will need to wait for approval and then complete the WP1 form. This can take up to five weeks.

Print the WP1 form and sign it. You will be sending this back with supporting documents as part of a formal application.

Send in copies of all academic/professional qualifications, employer's references from the last 5 years of employment, copies of advertisements that show the employer looked for an EU employee but did not find one, and any signed contracts between you and the company.

Wait between 1-4 weeks for final permit approval. If approved, this will be formally approved by the Home Office Border and Immigration Agency in the UK.

The work permit will be sent directly to you if you are in the UK. If you are outside of the UK, you will need to obtain a visa from the British High Commission in your area.

Pay the appropriate visa fees and complete a formal application. This will be sent directly to the British Consulate in your country for final approval.

The procedure for work permit applications can be different for each applicant.
UK employers must obtain a work permit on your behalf.
If you're outside of the UK, your visa is endorsed on your passport when you're ready to leave the country.
You can obtain free medical treatment through the National Health Service after staying in the UK for longer than 6 months.
Visas for under 6 months can be issued in 24-48 hours.
If you change employers during your stay, you will need to file a separate work permit application.
You may need to apply for a work permit extension application if you plan on working with a different employer.
A work permit alone lets you stay in the UK for six months; you will need a visa before traveling.
Visas for more than 6 months can take at least 10 working days to process.

? Do you have to be contracted or hired prior to applying for a UK Work Visa. I have a potential employer that advised they do not have a UK sponsorship program.
