How to Rent Canyoneering Equipment in Zion, Utah

1. Decide which canyoneering route you and your group would like to undertake and reserve the appropriate permits by calling 435-772-0170. This is the Zion Backcountry Office that issues all permits.
2. Once you've decided on the route you'd like to undertake and have reserved your permits, call the local outfitters to reserve your equipment. It is handy to have these outfitters in the Zion area, as they are experts on the canyoneering routes and can help you in choosing the best equipment for route and season. 3. Once you've chosen an outfitter, pick up your equipment at the agreed upon time and be sure to return it on time.

Tips & Warnings

• Don't be alarmed if they indicate you need a much larger shoe than you usually wear. The shoes must fit over neoprene booties and the booties take up a fair amount of room!
• Rent the shoes! Canyon water is stagnant for the most part, and you're better off renting canyoneering shoes for a nominal fee than subjecting your favorite tennies to these waters.
• Don't forget the dry bag! Have the outfitters demonstrate proper use of a dry bag when you pick up your equipment.
• Store delicate equipment, like cameras and car keys with remotes attached, in a ziploc baggie inside your dry bag for extra protection.
