Stepping stones are a great project to do with your kids during vacation from school. The materials are simple and easily available. The end result is a fun and practical stepping stone that will last for years. It is easy enough for the 3 year old and up and yet fun enough for a teenager! Of course, you don't have to be a kid to do it!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Concrete mix (no aggregate)
  • Marbles or beach glass or mosaics
  • Wheelbarrow and trowel for mixing
  • Plastic planter saucers

Step1
Working outside, mix the concrete according to the manufacturer's directions. It should be the consistency of a slushy.
Step2
Place the saucer in a place where it can stay for at least 24 hours without being moved. Pour the wet concrete into the plastic planter saucer filling it to at least 1 inch in depth.
Step3
Arrange the marbles or other materials in any creative pattern, setting them at least half of their thickness into the concrete.
Step4
Now let the concrete cure for at least 24 hours. It should turn a chalky white color. If it is still light brown and damp looking - wait, and let it cure for another 24 hours.
Step5
Now turn the stepping stone over and remove the plastic saucer. Place in a strategic spot in your garden to further cure. It should be ready to walk on safely in a week.
