If you have an over abundance of tomatoes from the garden, drying them can be a way of preserving that great tomato taste as well as having them for later use. Tomato chips make a great snack and can be used in many recipes.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Firm ripe tomatoes
  • Garlic powder
  • Dried oregano leaves
  • Dried sweet basil leaves
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Dehydrator
  1. Step 1

    Wash and dry tomatoes with a clean towel.

  2. Step 2

    Slice tomatoes in 1/4 inch slices.

  3. Step 3

    Place tomatoes on dehydrator racks.

  4. Step 4

    Sprinkle tomatoes with garlic powder, oregano, basil, salt and pepper.

  5. Step 5

    Dry 12 to 24 hours. Tomatoes chips should be pliable to slightly brittle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Drying can intendify the flavor so go lighly with the salt or other spices.
  • Adding salt to taste before drying can become too salty after drying.
  • Store dried tomatoes in a paper bag. Paper bags help to prevent moisture.
