How to Occupy Your Children With Simple Drawing Games

I’d like to share some simple drawing games that you can play with your children or grandchildren. Many restaurants now supply the children with crayons and perhaps a placemat with games and coloring activities. Some restaurants even supply a small book with connect the dots and other activities. These however don’t occupy their time for very long. Here are a few games that will take the edge off of waiting.

Paper
Pen, pencil, or crayons

Step1

One fun game is to draw a number or a letter and have the child create a person or animal out of the letter or number. You can take turns doing this. You would be surprised at some of the imaginative things that they will draw.

Step2

Another great game is to create one big picture. Start out by drawing a house, or a barn, or a pond, anything or place that will allow for additional things to be added to the picture (people, animals, mountain, sky, sun, stars, etc.) Then take turns adding to the picture until it is complete.

Step3

Here is yet another simple drawing game. Trace the child’s hand and have them create something out of the hand tracing.

Step4

For the older child it is always fun for them to try drawing something at the restaurant; such as his family sitting at the table or even a detailed drawing of the condiments that are on the table. The object is to put as many details in the drawing that they can.
