Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
There are typing tutorial programs available for the computer. You want a program that has a lot of exercises. The program should show you your typing speed and pick up your keystrokes. It should also be able to tell you which letters slow you down.
Step2
If you are a hunt and pecker, you have habits to break. Typing is not a difficult thing to learn. The advantage to using standard typing is you can achieve a higher rate of speed eventually. It takes time and practice, but the nice thing is you will eventually be able to type without looking at your fingers.
Step3
Home base for typing is the middle row of keys. Use a keyboard chart to know where to place your fingers and which keys each finger uses. If you do not have a book, find simple sentences and type them over and over again. Work up to more difficult sentences and fingerings.
Step4
Practice, practice, practice. Do not give up. In a few months you should be typing between 40 and 50 works per minute. Once you are typing in that range it is simply practice that increases your speed. Also, remember to keep your eyes off the keys. You do actually type faster when you do not think about where your fingers are and what they are doing.
