How to Stay Informed on the News of the Day

Most people skim over the newspaper over breakfast or casually pay attention to the radio as they drive to work in the morning. They may have an awareness of the day's top stories, but they probably couldn't answer any questions about it. Follow these steps and impress your friends and co-workers by knowing more about what's going on in the world than they do.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • 30 to 45 minutes
  1. Step 1

    Go online to the Slate website (see Resources below) and click on "Today's Papers." Read through, paying special attention to any story running in "all the papers."

  2. Step 2

    Go to your local newspaper's website and read the lead local stories.

  3. Step 3

    Listen to news/talk radio to get another take on the day's top stories.

  4. Step 4

    Wait for someone else to bring up one of the day's top stories, then add your take on it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wait for an opening, and don't go out of your way to show people how much you know.
