Sell Your Excess Stuff Online Outside of Ebay

EBay is one of the most popular websites on the Internet, but not everyone wants to pay the fees required to post an item for sale on the site. There are other options available online that allow to you sell your unwanted junk without paying any fees upfront. At these sites, any fees you pay are incurred only if your item sells, so you won't end up paying something for nothing.

From Quick Guide: Amazon Marketplace Guide
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Online access
  • Excess stuff
  1. Step 1

Sell your items at the Half website (see Resources below). Half is owned by Ebay, but you don't have to pay for listing items to sell. However, you are limited in what you can sell to the books, movies, CDs, video games and video game systems that are listed on the site. You can request that additional items in these categories be added to the site, but they must have either an ISBN (for books) or UPC code. You pay only if your item sells, and the site automatically deducts a commission (5% to 15%, depending on how much the price is) from what it pays you every month. The website also gives you enough money to pay for shipping the item.

  2. Step 2

Sell your items at Amazon (see Resources below). Amazon's Marketplace operates much like Half, although you have a much wider variety of choices of items to sell. However, Amazon charges more than Half when you sell a product. In addition to a commission (6% to 15% of the price), the site charges $0.99 for each transaction and a closing fee of about $0.50 to $1.50 or more for large items. Like Half, Amazon gives you enough money to pay for shipping the item and pays you every month.

  3. Step 3

Sell your items at SecondSpin (see Resources below). You can sell CDs, DVDs and video games directly to SecondSpin, which then re-sells the items on the site. There are no fees for selling items. You are generally limited to the items listed on the site, although you can request that exceptions be made. You package the items that are accepted on the site and ship them to SecondSpin, which inspects them and issues your payment based on the ones that are in acceptable condition. You pay to ship the items to SecondSpin but are reimbursed for the ones that are accepted. The ones that aren't accepted are returned to you. You are paid within a week of SecondSpin's receipt of the products.

  4. Step 4

Sell your items at Spun. Spun operates similarly to SecondSpin. It reimburses your shipping charges only if you sell at least three items. You pay to get rejected items returned to you. You are paid within a week of Spuin's receipt of the products.

  5. Step 5

Sell your items at Craigslist (see Resources below). There are no fees to list an item for sale, and you can sell practically anything you want. It is a completely free classified ad site, although you are responsible for setting up payment with any buyers who contact you.

  6. Step 6

Sell your items at LoudFrog (see Resources below). LoudFrog.com has a look and broad product selection similar to Ebay, but there is no auction process and items are listed for free. You pay only a 1% fee when items sell. You list a purchase price but can designate it as "negotiable." Payment is handled through PayPal, which may charge a fee to the seller.

  7. Step 7

Consider trading your items at sites like CareToTrade, PeerFlix, Swap-Online or TheCheshireKat (see Resources below). You won't get money, but you might find something even better!

Tips & Warnings
  • Although Amazon takes more fees out of the money you earn, the site's popularity means quicker sales than most other sites.
  • For CDs, DVDs and books, the default shipping method that Amazon.com and Half.com pays for is Media Mail, but depending on how much they weigh, you can send them by First Class Mail cheaper than Media Mail, meaning you get to keep more of the money that the sites give you for shipping.

on 11/28/2008 I tried Selling more these venues through the years. Ebay And craigsllist are great if you have the time to get the top dollar. But if you want to avoid the hassles of selling one at a time Second spin and another site mx123.com are convenient. Not familar with loud frog. Nice article.
