Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Pray for them regularly and let them know you are praying for them. That is an encouragement to them.
Step2
Help them to see God in their life in the area of sharing their testimony with others. God’s major call to all Christian’s lives is to share and be used as a tool to help others enter the kingdom.
Step3
Help them find resources to help them grow as a Christian. Of course, the Bible is the best resource, but knowing where to start reading is very helpful. Beginning at Genesis and reading through can sometime discourage the reader when they reach Leviticus. Simply explain how the books of the Bible are laid out, and suggest they begin reading in the New Testament with the gospels. They can ask themselves what they have learned in the reading about Jesus, and how can they apply it to their life. Help them find God’s promises of salvation in the Bible for the assurance that they are saved.
Step4
Show them how to deal with sin in their life. If a new Christian is having a difficult time letting go of an old habit that is sin, show them the verse 1 Corinthians 10:13 that shows that God has provided a way out of their sin. Show them that confessing the sin to Jesus will help them let go of the sin and leave it at the cross. The confessed sin is forgiven. God’s Holy Spirit power can enable the Christian to be free of sin. Perhaps there are unhealthy relationships the new Christian is in that are pulling him to sin. There needs to be healthy relationships established to encourage the new Christian to repent and stay away from sin. At the same time, it is good to have healthy relationships with non-Christians where the Christian can model their newfound relationship with Jesus and they can shine His light to them.
