These steps will show you how to upload files on the Internet using FTPs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase software that is equipped with FTP (file transfer protocol) capabilities. Some web design software comes with this feature.

  2. Step 2

You'll need to ask the host of the website for the information needed to fill when requested by the FTP application (i.e., "ftp.yourwebsitename.com" your username and password). If you experience problems, call your host.

  3. Step 3

Test the information you've put in the fields by connecting to the site. If the information is correct you should see files already on the site displayed in the FTP program.

  4. Step 4

Place files on the computer that you wish to upload to the Internet onto the FTP program and click the icon that allows you to place the files on the Internet. The icon may be an "up arrow" or say "put" or "update" or "upload".
