California has passed a law legalizing the use of marijuana as a treatment for a number of illnesses and creating a system whereby patients whose physicians have prescribed it can legally buy and use medical marijuana throughout the state. If you're a Californian and you utilize marijuana for your own health maintenance, follow these steps to ensure your use stays within the law.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Local weekly newspaper
  • Physician
  • Qualifying illness
  1. Step 1

Open the newspaper and look through the classified ads to find a physician who writes medical marijuana prescriptions.

  2. Step 2

Make an appointment with a physician.

  3. Step 3

Describe your symptoms/illness. Conditions which, by law, can be treated with medical marijuana include AIDS, cancer, chronic pain, anorexia, glaucoma, and arthritis. If you don't suffer from any of these conditions, tell your physician that you sometimes get painful migraines and the only thing that works to alleviate your pain is marijuana.

  4. Step 4

If your physician doesn't write you a prescription, repeat the process with a different doctor.

Tips & Warnings
  • Physician referrals can also be found online.
  • When talking to your physician, take the process seriously. Physicians who prescribe marijuana believe in it as medicine and may not write you a prescription if he or she doesn't think you do, also.
  • There is no guarantee that any physician will prescribe medical marijuana to you.

on 3/7/2009 It's a pharmaceutical issue - big pharma wants us to buy their drugs. It's a textile issue - textile industry wants us to buy their fabrics and synthetics. It's a paper issue - lumbering wants to keep chopping down rain forest trees. It's a fuel issue - this is one alternative for ethanol that comes from a non-food crop. It's a law enforcement issue - Police get a lot of overtime working propaganda campaigns, locking up smokers and spending time in court. It's a corrections issue - Corporate prisons make bank working prisoners who were convicted on marijuana charges. It's an alcohol and tobacco issue - They dont want any more competition. It's a status quo issue - The power that be are afraid of the new wave of consiuosness that will sweep the nation. It's a pride issue - They just dont want to admit that they were wrong in arresting 20,000,000 US citizens over 40 of the Civil War on Drugs.Peace
