Scoop vanilla ice cream into a blender and add about 3/4 cup of milk. Start blending, keeping an eye on the consistency. You may need to add more milk if the mixture is too thick. Add a little at a time and continue blending to check the consistency.

Spoon or squirt in chocolate syrup, about 1 to 2 tablespoons. Also pour in 1 packet of hot chocolate mix for every 10 ounces of milkshake.

Blend to incorporate the chocolate. When the shake is evenly mixed, check the consistency and flavor, and adjust the milk or chocolate as needed. Pour into glasses and serve.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to use chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla, reduce the amount of chocolate syrup to about 1 to 2 teaspoons.

I adore chocolate but being a Vermonter I worship maple syrup. Follow the directions for a shake up to the vanilla looking stage then add 1Tbs. real maple syrup grade B which is for cooking. It has much more flavor than grade A fancy. If grade A is all you can find add more to taste.
