Looking for a tasty alternative to a pot pie? With a light puff pastry crust, this pie will have you and your guests begging for more. The beef's flavour is enhanced by the Guinness stout, however it doesn't overpower the beef as I've found in some recipes. Serves 8.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • 2.25lbs round steak, cubed
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 5 onions, chopped
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 300 mls Guinness Stout
  • 3 oz lard
  • 3 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 sheet puff pastry

Step1
Preheat oven to 325F.
Step2
Dust cubed steak in seasoned flour.
Step3
Melt lard in a skillet.
Step4
Brown steak and bacon in skillet.
Step5
Once browned, remove to a casserole dish.
Step6
Over medium heat, fry onions in skillet until browned.
Step7
Remove onions and add to casserole dish with bacon and steak.
Step8
Sprinkle brown sugar and parsley over top of meat mixture.
Step9
Add Guinness to meat mixture, stirring gently.
Step10
Bake in oven for 2 - 2.5 hours, stirring occasionally. If necessary, add more water or stout to casserole.
Step11
Roll out prepared puff pastry to desired shape and lay over top of pie.
Step12
Bake according to puff pastry instructions until pastry has puffed and is a lovely golden brown hue.
