Fresh, plain whipped cream is such a treat when served with sweet desserts. Sometimes, a richer or bittersweet dessert, like a chocolate pot de creme, needs a slightly sweeter topping. Follow these easy instructions, and you will have no problem making sweetened whipped cream.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • An electric handheld mixer with whisk attachment
  • A glass or stainless steel bowl
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  1. Step 1

An hour before making the sweetened whipped cream, place the bowl and the whisk attachment into your freezer. Make sure to keep the cream in the refrigerator until ready to use.

  2. Step 2

When you are ready to make the sweetened whipped cream, prep your work area and make sure you have the sugar and vanilla handy and ready to use. Remove the whisk attachment, bowl, and cream from the freezer and fridge. Attach the whisk to the handheld mixer.

  3. Step 3

Pour the cream into the cold bowl, and begin to whisk, using the lowest setting on the mixer. After a minute or so, the cream will bubble and get frothy.

  4. Step 4

Add the sugar and vanilla, and continue to whisk, increasing the power on the mixer.

  5. Step 5

After 2 - 3 minutes, the cream will become thick, and hold soft peaks.

  6. Step 6

    Serve and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure all items are as cold as possible.
  • It is ok to make whipped cream up to 2 hours before you plan to use it. Keep it in the fridge. If it loses it's thickness, briefly rewhisk.
  • Do not over whisk!
