Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- A job
- Motivation
- Time
- Patience
Step1
Develop motivation. What is motivation you to pursue a promotion or a raise? Do you need more money coming in? Do you want the added responsibility? Everyone has different motivational reasons, the first step is to find yours.
Step2
Set your alarm early. This step can be useful in many different ways. When you set your alarm earlier than you regularly would, you give yourself more time to do all of your "before work" tasks. You will have more time to eat a more fulfilling breakfast, take more time to clean up and make yourself presentable, and you will be able to leave for work earlier than you normally would.
Step3
Be Helpful. Help out others as much as possible. Helping others with problems they have is a great way to show off your skills and qualifications for a higher position. It will also create more trust from your co-workers, and your supervisors, which of course is very important. They won't promote anyone that they don't trust.
Step4
Be a leader. Helping others can go a long way, but being a leader is taking that step to the next level. A leader not only helps others, but motivates others to perform better. Show off your leadership skills, and develop new ones whenever possible. Is your team stuck on a project at work? Don't hesitate, take action!
Step5
Talk to your supervisor. If you have to schedule a meeting, then do it. Find a way to discuss your qualifications. Tell your supervisor why you feel that you deserve a higher position, or a raise. Maybe you haven't received a promotion or a raise yet because of something your supervisor has noticed about your work. If you never ask, you won't know. Learn what is preventing you from going forward, and correct them.
