How to View Your Folders In Windows XP

If you have had trouble using Windows Explorer, or you are used to using an old DOS based system, this will allow you to view and check for folders using Command Prompt.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Windows XP
Step1
The first step is to turn your computer on and log into your account. Make sure that you have full access if you are on a computer where you aren't the administrator.
Step2
Click on the start menu, then move up to All Programs, then up to Accessories, and down to Command Prompt
Step3
When your command prompt window opens, you should see a dialog that says, "C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}. Make sure that you have the correct root by typing in "c:"
Step4
Once you're certain that you have the correct destination, type "tree" This will bring up a visual dialog showing all of your folders. And that's it!

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes it may take a while to display all of the folders, especially if you're computer is old or you have a lot of folders.
