Pro football doesn't just happen on Sundays. For the teams facing each other, the game starts on Wednesday with the release of the injury report. For the rest of the week, the teams engage in pre-game subterfuge designed to throw off their opponents. Handicappers in Las Vegas, however, are not so easily fooled. The reason why the eventual margin of victory is always so close to the original point-spread is the handicappers know their business. The sports books, however, know gamblers - and gamblers are usually wrong.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • A steely resolve to not let your heart get in the way
  1. Step 1

Check the line when it opens on Monday.

  2. Step 2

Check the line daily for movement.

  3. Step 3

If the line goes up, that means the sports books are trying to make the underdog more attractive because the gamblers are taking the favorite. Since the smart play is to bet against the gamblers, you take the underdog.

  4. Step 4

If the line goes down, that means the sports books are trying to make the favorite more attractive because the gamblers are taking the underdog. Since the smart play is to bet against the gamblers, you take the favorite.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are always exceptions.
  • This does not apply to college football - though it could.
  • Try to avoid betting on your favorite team if money is involved.
