How to run modded ATI Catalyst mobility drivers in Vista x64

If you're a gamer, or just like to have the most recent released version of the ATI Catalyst drivers on you notebook then you know the frustration of OEM's not releasing newer versons of the ATI drivers, and of ATI themselves not supporting Catalyst mobility drivers. the DH ModTool allows you to take the ATI desktop Catalyst drivers and modify them to function as a mobility driver. This works for XP/XP professional x64/Vista x86. The problem is that by modifying these signed drivers they become "unsigned drivers", and Vista x64 will not allow unsigned drivers in the kernel. The earlier versons of Vista allowed you to disable signed driver check through bcdedit.exe, but this was later disabled through security patches. Vista x64 does allows for the running of unsigned drivers though, but only for the active session. In otherwords, you have to actively disable the signed driver feature at each boot up. Here's how. Update 7/7/08 See step 7 for other methods to disable signed driver check.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
hit F8 at windows bootup.
Scroll down to "Disable driver signature enforcement"
Start Windows normally
Step2
Navigate to http://driverheaven.net/modtool/
download Modtool

1: Download MSXML 4.0 from Microsoft. Install.

2: Make sure UAC control in Vista is turned off. If you don't know how to do this then read this guide (method 4 is the easiest) or click the "disable UAC" in Mobility Modder.net - please note you MUST reboot after disabling UAC. If you don't want it disabled permanently, you can turn it back on after mobility tool has finished, but it won't mod the drivers correctly with UAC ON.
Step3
Download the newest Vista x64 desktop drivers from www.ati.com
Step4
Run the downloaded driver, let it extract into c:/ATI/SUPPORT - but cancel the installation once the driver is extracted
Step5
go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-10_vista_dd_ccc_enu_44985 (Or whatever the driver installation folder was called), and run the SETUP.EXE. Please note you might see a "Driver is not WHQL certified", ignore this, as it is a side effect of the modification
Step6
Note-F8 Disable driver signature enforcement will have to be done at each start up to allow unisigned driver to load.
Step7
Run the following command from an elevated CMD prompt: bcdedit /set testsigning on

OR

Open an elevated command prompt

type “bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS” without the quotations

OR

Use a Driver and/or CD to disable:
