Things You'll Need:
- skis
- boots
- ski helmets
- lift tickets
- lesson reservation
- ski clothes
-
Step 1
Ask your friends for instructor recommendations. You can also check out ski message forums such as epicski.com for advice.
-
Step 2
If you are taking a private lesson, request a Level III certified instructor. This is the highest level of certification for ski instructors.
-
Step 3
Book your lesson a few days in advance. Arrive early at the resort. You should be geared up and at ski school line-up at least 15 minutes before the class starts.
-
Step 4
Most ski school websites feature a picture that shows you what level ski class you should choose if you ski in any given way. Choose a class that is appropriate for your level.
-
Step 5
Be sure to tell your instructor exactly what you want to get out of the lesson. Try not to get defensive if your instructor tells you that you are not yet ready to learn a specific skill. Fir example, if you are still skiing in a "wedge," you might not be ready for a double black mogul run!
-
Step 6
Listen to the correction that your instructor gives to the other students. They can be helpful for improving your own skills.
-
Step 7
When riding the lift, observe and comment on the skills of other skiers. Ask your instructor if your observations are correct. Hint: The mistakes you see in others might be your most common mistakes.
