How to fasten drywall to fire place wall

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • drywall,knife, straight edge, ferring strips, cornerbead, tape, compound , screws, drill, liquid nails, or cement fastening gun,

Step1
First measure out wall to see how much material you are going to need
Step2
A way to figure square footage is height x width this is per side of each wall.
Step3
A sheet of drywll is 32 square feet so you will get all your total sqare footage then devide 32 into that total number of square footage this will tell you how many sheets you need
Step4
Measuring the height will give you the linear feet of ferring needed.
Step5
Fasten each ferring strip 16 inches apart measure from center to center of each stip
Step6
Let the glue dry one day before fastening drywall to ferring strips
Step7
Start fastening the drywall to strips from one end makeing sure the first peice is level proceed with all the rest of the sheets

Fasten the drywall with 1 inch screws,making sure you dont let the screws go through the drywall facing ,you want the screws to be indented just enough so you can compound them but not ripping the paper of the drywall. You can purchase a special bit to acomplish this at any home improvement store

After all the drywall is hung install the corner bead on the edges where all angles come together. Corner beads comes in either metal that can be screwed to wall or you can purchas the type that can be fastened using compound this all depends on your skill
Step10
Now your ready to tape the seams apply compound using a 5 inch knife spread the compuond liberally on the entire seam

imbed the tape into the compound, now with a clean taping knife 10 in width scrape all excess compound from wall and tape. this is done bu holding the knife against the wall at a 90 degree angle
Step12
let the first coat dry. Sand the wall and reaply as many times as needed untill the seams no longer show usually the second coat does this when new walls are erected
Step13
Next prime the wall and you may then choose the wall covering of your choice
