How to Meet Locals in Summit County Colorado

Whether you are looking to meet the love of your life, find a job, or just find a place to crash in Summit County, Colorado, meeting locals can be a challenge. Since the area tends to get inundated with tourists, residents often like to keep to themselves. However, with a bit of finesse and savvy, you will find that Summit County locals are really quite friendly.

    Visit during the off-season. If you are a skier or rider, this means either October and November or April and May. Summer is also a great time to visit.

  2. Step 2

    Visit the less commercial ski areas such as Loveland or Arapahoe Basin. Although Copper is a commercial resort, it tends to attract more locals than Breckenridge and Keystone.

  3. Step 3

    Stay in Dillon or Silverthorne. This is where most Summit County locals live.

  4. Step 4

    Ski midweek. Locals avoid weekends. Since most of the instructors are local, consider taking a lesson.

  5. Step 5

    For apres ski, avoid the on-mountain bars. Locals tend to hang out at Moose Jaw on Main Street in Frisco, or at the Dillon Dam Brewery in Dillon. offer to by beers, and you will make many new friends.

    If possible, bring your dog. Most Summit County residents are animal lovers. Abby's Coffee Shop in Frisco will even allow you to bring your dog inside!
