Some women have difficulty moving from mild labor to heavy labor. One of the easiest and safest methods of moving labor is warm water.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A shower or tub
  • Warm water
  • Someone to assist you
Step1
Stand in a warm shower or sit in a warm bath.
Step2
Warm water relaxes the muscles and helps strengthen labor pains. At the same time, the warm water also helps relieve abdominal cramping.
Step3
When a woman is able to relax through contractions, the process of dilation progresses faster.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not make the water too hot.
  • Breath through your contractions.
  • Making the water too hot can cause stress on the baby by elevating the heart rate. Try to keep the water temperature at no more then 98 degrees.
  • Always have someone with you while in the water.
