Alleviating constipation in an infant, without drugs, can be important to a parent as well as the child. Sometimes using home remedies is worth a try before progressing to medications. Using this method generally works if used consistently.

  • Water
  • Dark Karo syrup
  • Baby bottle

How to Alleviate Constipation in Infants

Step1
Put 4 ounces of water in the baby's bottle. Add 1 teaspoon of dark Karo syrup.
Step2
Shake well.
Step3
Feed to infant.

Tips & Warnings

  • This method can take 4 to 12 hours to work. Readminister after 12 hours if the constipation continues. If the condition doesn't cease after 24 hours, call your family doctor.
  • You can substitute formula for the water.
  • Do not give this to an infant that has been diagnosed with diabetes.
  • Do not exceed the dosage or the ratio described in Step 1. Too much syrup can cause diarrhea or upset your infant's salt balance.
