Windows Vista includes a great new feature that allows you to manage your child's computer time and what they do. Imagine a calendar and clock that lets your child in or cuts them off from the computer at bed time. That's just one many tools in the parent control section of Windows Vista. Keep reading to learn how you can use Vista's Parent Control.

Instructions

      Click the Vista Start-ball and type PARENT [enter]

      Once in the Parent Control screen, click create a new user.

      Type in your child's name.
      Click Create Account.
      This is only for your use. No one outside your PC can see your child's name.

      You are now in the main screen. You need to turn ON parent control so click the radial button for ON under parental control. As soon as you click ON, everything lights up and you can start setting up your child's limits.

      Below the child's icon, you will click the word OFF one at a time for each area. When qan area is completed, you return to this main screen and can see OFF has been switch to ON. Lets walk through the areas.

      TIME LIMITS
      Click the "OFF" Link for time limits and you will see this screen. Here you will click the hours you do NOT want your child on the computer. Blocked hours are blue. Open Hours are White.

      GAMES
      From here you can set the level of the Game-Rating-System which automatically monitors your child's game playing. You can also block or allow any game manually without disrupting the rating system for other games.

      Here is the details screen for game allow or blocking.

      PROGRAM BLOCKING
      You can block or allow the use of any program.

      Last but not least is the Activity Viewer. From here you can check in on your child's history of computer use to be sure he/she is living by the rules you have set. This also gives you confidence Vista-parent-control is doing its job.

  • Set up all parts of the parent control so it can work its best.
