Things You'll Need:
- A digital camera
- Someone to operate the camera for you
- Photo paper for printing
-
Step 1
You'll want to first figure out whether you want to use a timer feature on your camera or have someone else operate the camera.
If you decide to use the timer, read your manual and practice with it a day or two ahead to get it figured out. -
Step 2
Take your picture after some activity where your family had fun and feels 'togetherness'. It will show in your picture.
-
Step 3
Take your time. The more rushed and stressed your family feels, the harder it will be to get a good shot. The more you take your time, the quicker the whole process will be.
-
Step 4
Think the whole thing out ahead of time. Know what you want to capture and how you plan on having everyone arranged in the shot.
The more prepared you are, the more relaxed your family will feel and the better the shot will come out. -
Step 5
Try to create something memorable. Do something different or interesting.
You might try an action shot. Show your family doing one of their favorite activities together.
Maybe you could do a themed shot. Give it a 'beach' feel or a 'cowboy' feel.
Black and white is also an option. It definitely adds character to a photo. -
Step 6
Drop by your local camera shop and let them know that you want something to spruce up your family's Christmas picture.
Remember, you're going to be saving money by doing this yourself, so you can afford to get a little equipment upgrade here. -
